My research interests range from designing user experiences and hardware to digital media and medieval gothic architecture. In general I am interested in how people use interfaces and the design of the tools they use to do that. I am also fascinated by the way medieval gothic architects designed user experiences using methods such as way finding and visual rhetoric to teach religion to a mostly illiterate public.
Some of my research has been funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, and my institutions. I have published in journals such as Kairos, SIGDOC, Communication Design Quarterly and others. I have contributed to several edited collections on the topics of digital dissertations, digital pedagogy, and UX research methods and pedagogy. I have also worked as a digital media editor on several books, book chapters, and journal articles.
Currently my research also includes assisting faculty in the College of Humanities at Brigham Young University to design and build digital tools to assist them in conducting their research as well as displaying and sharing their work with their fields.
